How to Set BIOS to Boot from CD/DVD or USB Drive?

In the process that you reset your lost Windows password with Windows Password Reset, you will be asked to reset password by the CD/CVD reset disk or USB drive. However, when you failed to boot your locked computer after you have inserted the CD/DVD or USB drive into it, you will have to set BIOS to boot from CD/DVD or USB drive to go on the password recovery process.

Please follow the below steps if you want to reset Windows password by setting BIOS to boot from CD/DVD or USB drive.

Step 1. Enter into BIOS Setup

After you have booted your computer, please press F2, Delete or F10 to enter into BIOS Setup.

Step 2. In the BIOS Setup Utility

After pressing the correct key or keys combination, you are in the BIOS Setup Utility now.

Although there are many differences among BIOS utilities, they are all a set of menus which are combined with different settings for your computer's hardware. Look at the BIOS below, the hardware options is in the middle and in the bottom there are instructions on how to move around the BIOS and to make changes.

Part 1. Boot Order Options in BIOS from CD/DVD

1. Hard drive, floppy drive, and optical drive will be listed in this screen. The listed order is also the boot order of your computer and can be changed by + and - .

Choose Hard Drive if you want to set BIOS boot from USB drive or choose CD-ROM Drive to set BIOS to boot from CD/DVD.

2. Change the Boot Order

You can change the boot order as you like at this step. Here we choose CD-ROM Drive for example to set BIOS to boot from CD/DVD.

3. Save the previous changes to the BIOS setup utility

Save the previous BIOS changes to make it take effects by locating and choosing the Exit Saving Changes (or similarly worded) option.

4. Confirm the previous changes and exit BIOS

Select Yes to save your BIOS configuration changes and exit.

5. Start your PC with the new Boot Order

Now you have set BIOS to boot from CD/DVD with Windows Password Reset successfully. You will find that the password recovery process goes on smoothly.

Part 2. Boot Order Options in BIOS from USB drive

1. Hard drive, floppy drive, and optical drive will be listed in this screen. The listed order is also the boot order of your computer and can be changed by + and - .

Choose Hard Drive if you want to set BIOS boot from USB drive

2. Change the Boot Order

You can change the boot order as you like at this step. Here we choose Hard Drive first and then choose USB Flash Disk to set BIOS to boot from USB drive.

3. Save the previous changes to the BIOS setup utility

Save the previous BIOS changes to make it take effects by locating and choosing the Exit Saving Changes (or similarly worded) option.

4. Confirm the previous changes and exit BIOS

Select Yes to save your BIOS configuration changes and exit.

5. Start your PC from USB drive

Now you have set BIOS to boot from CD/DVD with Windows Password Reset successfully. You will find that the password recovery process goes on smoothly.
